This evolving landscape design project on a large farm in Lidgetton, KwaZulu-Natal is being shaped slowly and intentionally — guided by the natural features of the land and a commitment to sustainable garden design.
At the heart of the project is a lush perennial garden, planted in bold sweeps of pinks, purples, and reds. This vibrant planting palette brings structure and softness to the space and will mature beautifully over time, creating a layered, ever-changing garden landscape.
Locally sourced boulders from the property itself have been incorporated into the design, grounding the garden and adding rhythm, texture, and a strong sense of place. These natural elements help the garden feel established and connected to its surroundings — a key principle in our approach to farm garden landscaping.
Rather than removing mature trees, the existing canopy has been carefully preserved and celebrated. Beneath it, shade-loving flowers and foliage plants are being layered to create cool, textured garden spaces that invite exploration and quiet moments of pause.
A duck pond is planned as the next phase of the project. This water feature will introduce movement, reflection, and sound while supporting local wildlife. Once complete, it will serve as both a focal point and a peaceful sanctuary, tying the wider farm garden together.
This is not a garden built overnight. It is growing season by season — shaped by observation, patience, and respect for the land. It reflects our philosophy of thoughtful, site-specific landscape design in KwaZulu-Natal, where gardens are allowed to evolve naturally.
