Open Garden this weekend: Sat 1 & Sun 2 Nov | Merrivale Heights, Howick

Set on what was once an orange farm in Merrivale Heights, Howick, this extraordinary landscaped garden is a heartfelt tribute to life, love, and legacy. Lovingly created by artist Carol Sacke and her husband Kevin, the garden honours their daughter Kelli while reflecting Carol’s vibrant artistic spirit.

Over the past nine years, this space has evolved into a multi-sensory garden journey, featuring a collection of beautifully designed garden rooms. From the Champagne Garden and Proudly South African Garden to Golfer’s Paradise, the striking Japanese Garden, and the playful Fancy Free Garden, each area offers a unique experience rooted in thoughtful garden design and creative expression.

Every corner of the garden showcases Carol’s artistic touch, with each garden room styled like a living canvas — expressive, personal, and full of character. Visitors are invited to explore the on-site Kelli Belli Gallori, a colourful art gallery displaying Carol’s work. Conversations with the artist herself add a deeply personal layer to the experience.

This landscaped garden is designed to stir emotion and uplift the spirit, blending nature and creativity in a way that leaves visitors inspired. All proceeds from the open garden weekend will be donated to CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa) and to Carol’s gardener, making this event as meaningful as it is beautiful.

For anyone passionate about garden design, landscaped outdoor spaces, or creative gardens in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, this open garden is not to be missed.
